Lin-Manuel Miranda has officially passed his “Hamilton” coat to Javier Muñoz.
Muñoz has been Miranda’s alternate in the Broadway smash – and since the musical debuted at the Public Theater in January 2015 - and also previously replaced Miranda in his Tony-winning musical, “In the Heights.”
But of bigger news to "Hamilton" devotees is that before Miranda, the creator of the show that nabbed 11 Tony Awards on Sunday , departs on July 9, performances at the Richard Rodgers Theatre will be filmed with the original cast.
Miranda confirmed the plans on Twitter, but said he had “no idea” what the footage would be used for in the future (fans are clamoring for a “Hamilton” movie).
Muñoz will officially step into the role of Alexander Hamilton on July 11.
A Chicago production of "Hamilton' begins an open-ended run in October, while a national tour launches with a 21-week run in San Francisco in March, followed by another 21 weeks in Los Angeles. The show is expected to play Atlanta as part of the 2017-2018 Broadway in Atlanta series.
