With the recent deaths of so many major music stars, the In Memoriam segment at the Grammy Awards might take up a solid chunk of the show.
Along with the David Bowie tribute being crafted by Lady Gaga and Nile Rodgers, a salute to Glenn Frey will also take place, and it already sounds like a tearjerker.
Frey’s Eagles co-founders Don Henley and Bernie Leadon will be joined by guitarist Joe Walsh, bassist Timothy B. Schmit and longtime friend of the band and onetime roommate of Frey, Jackson Browne (too bad apparent lingering acrimony between the Eagles and Don Felder couldn’t be worked out for such a momentous performance).
A gambler might put money on the collective performing “Take it Easy,” which was mostly written by Browne with contributions (and vocals) from Frey.
Frey, who last performed with the Eagles on July 29, 2015 ( and here in 2014 ), died Jan. 18 of complications from rheumatoid arthritis, ulcerative colitis and pneumonia .
Other performances during the Grammys include Adele, the Broadway cast of “Hamilton,” Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, Rihanna, Chris Stapleton, Bonnie Raitt and The Weeknd.
