Atlanta-formed quintet Blackberry Smoke is celebrating a newly refurbished Macon landmark with “Live From Capricorn Sound Studio.” A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the EP, which is out June 19, will go to the Recording Academy’s MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund.

The six songs on the EP have a special connection to the studio, which has recently had a rebirth as a part of a 20,000-square-foot complex owned by Mercer University.

Ahead of the EP’s release, the Southern rock-steeped band has released a new version of the Allman Brothers Band classic “Midnight Rider.” The band’s fresh take even features Duane Allman’s iconic goldtop Les Paul guitar played by Blackberry Smoke lead singer Charlie Starr. Check out the video for the track below.

The band has also announced the "Spirit of the South Tour: A Celebration of Southern Rock and Roll Music," set to kick off in July. The tour had planned on an Aug. 8 date at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, but the rescheduling of the musical "Hamilton" has postponed that date. They'll be bringing along The Allman Betts Band, The Wild Feathers and founding member of The Allman Brothers Band, Jaimoe.

The tour offers a special treat, too, for those who haven’t been to Macon’s The Allman Brothers Band Museum At The Big House. The museum has created a new mobile set up that will take the Allmans’ history on the road, setting up at each tour stop along the way.
