The 2017 Oscar nominations were announced this morning, and "Hidden Figures," set in Hampton, Va. but filmed in metro Atlanta, is up for best picture.

We started wondering when the last time an Atlanta-filmed project took top honors at the Academy Awards, so we took a look through the archives. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences maintains a very comprehensive database if you are ever interested.

"Selma," directed by Ava DuVernay and produced by Oprah Winfrey, was nominated in 2015 but "Birdman" won. "Selma's" ballad "Glory," by John Legend and Common, did win best original song.

"The Blind Side" was nominated in 2010; "The Hurt Locker" won. Sandra Bullock won a best-actress Oscar for her role in "The Blind Side."

"Forrest Gump," which filmed partly in Savannah, cleaned up in 1995. Along with a best picture Oscar, the project earned Tom Hanks a best actor trophy for his title role, Robert Zemeckis won for best director, Arthur Schmidt won for best editing, Ken Ralston, George Murphy, Allen Hall and Stephen Rosenbaum won for best visual effects and Eric Roth won best adapted screenplay. In addition Gary Sinise was nominated for best supporting actor.

Dial back a few more years and there you have it: "Driving Miss Daisy, set and filmed in Atlanta, won in 1990. Jessica Tandy collected a best actress trophy for her title role and her co-stars Morgan Freeman and Dan Aykroyd were nominated for best actor and best supporting actor. Atlanta playwright Alfred Uhry won for best adapted screenplay and Manlio Rocchetti, Lynn Barber and Kevin Haney won for best makeup.
