As far as movie merch goes, the collectors' items Mattel has just created ranks pretty high. Ahead of "A Wrinkle In Time," the venerable toy company has created Barbie dolls fashioned after characters portrayed by Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling and Oprah Winfrey.

Director Ava DuVernay was keen to get her hands on a set.

The movie, adapted from Madeleine L'Engle's 1962 sci-fi/fantasy novel, is due out March 9. The plot, per imdb: "After the disappearance of her scientist father, three peculiar beings send Meg (played by Storm Reid), her brother, and her friend to space in order to find him."

Witherspoon, Kaling and Winfrey play Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who and Mrs. Which - the three characters depicted in the new doll collection.
