It was a somber day on "The Today Show" for Matt Lauer's shocked co-hosts after he was abruptly terminated after more than 20 years, over allegations of inappropriate sexual conduct - but President Donald Trump took to Twitter with glee.

Variety, citing unnamed sources, reports that multiple women have accused Lauer of conduct such as exposing himself, making lewd comments, even giving a colleague an explicit sex toy .

Official reports have specified few details and only referenced a single allegation, yet hinted that more could surface.

Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb opened the broadcast sounding stunned. (Scroll down to see a video clip of their remarks).

"Right now we do not know more than what I just shared with you," Guthrie said after she read the entire statement NBC put out regarding Lauer. "I'm heartbroken."

Her voice sounding shaky, Guthrie said she felt for both Lauer, her longtime friend and colleague, and the person who lodged the complaint.
