Paula Deen apologized and took swift action after a controversial photo of her and her son Bobby dressed as Lucy and Ricky Ricardo set Twitter ablaze on Tuesday.
A statement from her publicist said:
"This photograph is from a Halloween episode of Paula's Best Dishes that aired in 2011. Paula immediately had this picture taken down as soon as she saw the post and apologizes to all who were offended. As such, Paula Deen Ventures has terminated their relationship with this Social Media Manager. "

Deen, who appeared on the Dr. Oz show earlier this year, has dealt with controversy before, of course. She was booted from the Food Network and lost a slew of endorsements after she acknowledged during a deposition that she had used a racial slur in decades past.
The lawsuit for which she was deposed was ultimately dismissed but not before the episode drew controversy and an investigation by the Rev. Jesse Jackson's Rainbow/PUSH Coalition.
The four-year-old Halloween photo was quickly taken down on Tuesday and Deen's Twitter feed hasn't been updated since.

Still, commentary continues rolling in 140 characters at a time. Reaction is mixed, with some Twitter pundits expressing outrage and some expressing outrage fatigue.
One commenter noted the movie "White Chicks," a 2004 comedy starring two members of the comedic Wayans family:
"Guess we should ban Halloween now too. Anyone remember the movie WHITE CHICKS?"
In the movie brothers Shawn and Marlon Wayans, who are black, donned makeup and blonde wigs to go undercover. (They play FBI agents).
