Lil Wayne tried to halt the airing of a "Nightline" segment in which he discussed Black Lives Matter and later fired his publicists, TMZ reports.
The rapper discussed music, performing, his time in prison and even his love of skateboarding with ABC's Nightline but the segment on Black Lives Matter spurred commentary on Twitter.
"What's your thought on Black Lives Matter?" reporter Linsey Davis asked him.
“What is it?” he responded. “What do you mean?”
After Davis explained the political and social movement, Wayne said, “It just sounds weird that you put a name on it. It’s somebody got shot by a policeman for a (bleeped) up reason.. I am young, black rich (bleep). If that don’t let you know that America understands black lives matter these days, I don’t know what it is. Don’t come at me with that dumb (bleep) ma’am. My life matters, especially to my (bleeps).”
Asked if feels separated from the movement he answered “I don’t feel connected to a damn thing that ain’t got nothing to do with me. If you do, you’re crazy ..”
TMZ says his camp later tried to get that portion of the interview axed, saying it wasn't a pre-approved question. When ABC didn't cave, the artist reportedly axed the publicists involved.
