Jones, now living in Virginia, was sad to hear Richt is out as head football coach at the University of Georgia and is sharing the response Richt sent to him all those years ago:

Dear Jamie:

I hear that you are serving our country in Iraq and I appreciate the fact that you are laying your life on the line for this country and all of its freedoms. While you are serving us, we are banging away this summer trying to get about 130 guys ready to play for the Georgia Bulldogs this fall.

I hope that we can live up to some of the expectations that people have been giving us over this summer, and I hope you get a chance to enjoy watching our season as it progresses.

A lot of people look up to the Georgia Bulldog players and some even look at them as heroes, but I know that it is guys like you that are the true heroes. I respect everything you are doing for our country.

Keep up the good work and when you get in town, come by and see me. I would love to talk about your experiences.

Go Dawgs! God Bless.

Coach Mark Richt

Jones was heartened to hear plans to keep Richt on in some capacity, and hopes by chance he might read this:
