Fed Ex guard Christopher Sparkman in medically induced coma

Christopher Sparkman, the security guard seriously injured during the April 2014 shooting at a FedEx facility in Kennesaw, was placed in a medically induced coma due to complications from a recent procedure, according to a web site established to provide updates on his condition.

On Sunday morning his wife, Jamie Lynn Sparkman, posted: "Christopher is headed back into the OR for an emergency surgery due to complications. Please say a prayer for us. More news later."

At 1:30 p.m. she posted: "Surgeons hoped to have repaired complications in OR. Chris remains in a medically induced coma until further notice. Mentally, he can't take much more. We need your prayers."

Sparkman, the most critically injured of  19-year-old Geddy Kramer's victims, has undergone more than 20 surgeries.

Kramer shot six employees before fatally shooting himself.

At the time of the shooting, the Sparkmans were newlyweds. They met through a church youth group and he asked her out on their first date while he was still deployed to Kuwait with the Army.

A Thomasville native, Christopher Sparkman has lived in Acworth since he was a teenager. He joined the Army in 2009 and was pursuing a career in air traffic control.

Sunday's harrowing updates come about a week after Sparkman's most recent surgery. On Feb. 16 Jamie Lynn Sparkman detailed an 11-hour procedure that "involved one urologist, two trauma surgeons, and one plastic surgeon."

"Chris will be in a lot of pain over the next few weeks," she posted then. "Thank you for the prayers, the encouragement, the support, and love. We are celebrating a successful 26th surgery. Now, we wait."
