Hours after  Charlie Sheen's  furious  ex-girlfriend Bree Olson told Howard Stern that he never told her of his HIV+ status and "doesn't even value my life," another former flame praised him during a visit to the Dr. Oz show.

Amanda Bruce, a nurse, had unprotected sex with Sheen even though she knew his HIV status. "It's not a death sentence these days," she said.

They were both under the care of Sheen's personal physician, Dr. Robert Huizenga, during their time as a couple. When Sheen was first diagnosed about four years ago he had a "massive" amount of the virus present in his bloodstream. After he started taking medication that level quickly shrank to being "undetectable," Huizenga said.

Bruce was taking prophylaxis medication during their relationship. That lowered but did not eliminate the risk of transmission, and the doctor advised against unprotected relations.

Still, Huizenga said Sheen has responded well to the medication and is diligent about taking it. His risk of full blown AIDs or transmitting HIV are “incredibly low,” he said.

Bruce and Sheen dated four about seven-eight months. They're no longer romantically involved but remain close, and Bruce spoke in very loving terms about him.

"He’s quite a character. He’s an amazing fellow," she said. "He’s a true gentleman. Very honest."
