Sure, you’d love to cook for hours each and every day, but with an easy recipe from a local pro, dinner can be fast and tasty. Less time in the kitchen means more time to savor the dish with family and friends.

South City Kitchen's executive chef Chip Ulbrich shares his flavorful recipe for grits below.

South City Kitchen’s grits

Servings: 4

Ingredients

1 cup heavy cream

3¼ cups water

1 cup Red Mule grits*

4 Tbsp. butter

Salt, to taste

  • In a heavy saucepan, heat the cream and water over medium heat 10 minutes, until the liquid begins to simmer.
  • Stir in the grits. Lower the heat and cook 20 to 25 minutes, or until the grits are tender and smooth. Stir occasionally to avoid scorching.
  • Add the butter and salt, stirring until the butter has melted.
  • Serve warm as a side or top with sautéed shrimp.
