Dallas-based Velvet Taco debuted Sept. 9 in the Buckhead Market Place at 77 West Paces Ferry Road.

The all-day restaurant, including late-night hours, offers a menu “exploring the edge of multi-regional and multi-cultural boundaries and an eclectic array of spices and flavors from across the world,” according to a press release.

The menu features more than 20 varieties of tacos including spicy tikka chicken, fried paneer, Picnic Chicken, falafel, Cuban Pig, Annatto Shredded Pork and ahi poké, in addition to brunch versions including the chicken and waffle made with chicken tenders, bacon, peppercorn gravy, green apple slaw, maple syrup, red chile aioli, chives and a waffle tortilla.

The restaurant also offers a weekly taco feature, with past options including Nashville Hot Cauliflower, crawfish and pork jambalaya, Hangover Burger, Vindaloo Flank & Hemp and the Velvet Elvis.

The selection of sides and desserts include red curry coconut queso and red velvet cake.

On the beverage side, Velvet Taco will feature local and Mexican beer on tap and in cans, craft sodas, fruit-infused iced teas and its Kick Ass Margarita. The taco joint also offers seasonal spins on the margarita, including the Watermelon Cucumber version served for summer.

Pick-up service, including a "secret" Backdoor Chicken – a whole rotisserie chicken, two sides of elote corn, six corn tortillas, roasted corn pico de gallo and heat sauce will be available for $20, or $10 on Monday.

“It’s our mission to deliver a fresh take on the ubiquitous taco” said chief executive officer Clay Doverin a prepared statement. “We’re very excited to bring our unique and quirky takes to Atlanta and can’t wait to welcome the community to dine with us soon.”

Designed to feel like a reclaimed loft, the “cool, industrial space” features an exposed ceiling, concrete, steel accents and “a mix of modern, quirky and collected furniture.”

The 2,500 square-foot restaurant joins other Velvet Taco locations in Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston and Chicago. The first location opened in Dallas in 2011.

A second Atlanta Velvet Taco location is set to open next year in The Interlock development in West Midtown.

Velvet Taco is open from 11 a.m.-midnight Monday; 11 a.m.-2 a.m. Tuesday; 11 a.m.-3 a.m. Thursday; 10 a.m.-3 a.m. Saturday; and 10 a.m.-midnight Sunday.
