On Tuesday, Tomorrow's News Today reported that the owners of the Ivy in Buckhead were taking over the Family Dog space in Morningside.

Today, Benjie Shirah and South Capital Partners confirmed that his group had closed on the property and would be reopening the Family Dog under the same name, perhaps as early as the end of December, after some capital improvements.

Here's more from a press release:

The Family Dog (TFD) transaction was advised by South Capital Partners (www.southcapitalpartners.com) which is an asset management firm. Benjie Shirah, whose bar and restaurant portfolio includes minority ownership interests in The IVY Buckhead, South Nashville, and The Southern Birmingham is principal of South Capital Partners.

SCP’s plans include keeping the current name, "The Family Dog," as the neighborhood bar has been a Morningside staple for years! SCP is excited to come to the neighborhood and are working hard to have TFD open on or before December 31st of this year.

South Capital Partners are creators of exhilarating, conceptually unique bar and restaurant concepts that join people together through unparalleled and emotionally inspiring guest experiences.

Ron Eyester, the chef/owner of Diner in Atlantic Station and founder of Grateful Tables restaurant group, closed his two original Morningside/ North Highland Ave. restaurants, Rosebud and the Family Dog, in October. Eyester closed his third Morningside restaurant, Timone’s, in July.
Tom Murphy and the team behind Murphy’s in Virginia-Highland and Paces & Vine in Vinings acquired the Rosebudspace in November.
