Earlier this month, the FIFA Women's World Cup kicked off in Canada, and to date, the formidable U.S. Women's National team has won every game, beating Australia, Sweden and Nigeria. At 7:30 p.m. tonight they will play against China, a team that they last faced—and beat—in 1999.
Several local bars and restaurants score big for broadcasting the games, which run through July 5. In the red, white and blue spirit (and possibly a pre-4th of July celebration), go out to cheer at these top spots, listed by neighborhoods. Some are even offering food and drink specials, which can be summed up in one word: goal. Go Team U.S.A.!
West Side: In addition to broadcasting the game plus a listing of local beer on a blackboard, Pijiu Belly offers a foosball table for half-time entertainment.
Smyrna/Vinings: With several drink specials including $3 Dos Equis Lager and $3 Warsteiner Dunkel, the casual environment of Padriac's is ideal for relaxing and rooting.
Grant Park: Watch the games and indulge in budget-friendly food at Republic Social House . During half-time, cool out on the rooftop. Post-game, party with with DJ Calvin, who spins from 10 p.m. - 2 a.m.
Virginia-Highland: Diesel Filling Station is known for its burgers and specialty hot dogs plus creative toppings like Coca Cola ketchup and pimento cheese. Tonight, there will be a philanthropic element to the party: a fundraiser for Soccer in the Streets and Sporty Girls. Proceeds from Bud Light sales and raffles will be donated to both causes.
East Side: Daily specials such as veggie plates, sandwiches and soups are posted on Midway Pub 's site. Be prepared to cheer at this popular bar with a patio.
Midtown: The energy at Hudson Grille is infectious, and sometimes you can't help but stop in for a burger, drink and a game. Everyday drink specials range from $2.75 cold cans of PBR to $5 pinnacle martinis.
Multiple locations: In true sports fan fashion, all five locations of Meehan's Public House—Atlantic Station, Buckhead, Downtown, Sandy Springs and Vinings—will broadcast the games. According the their site, fans here can "watch Team USA kick some gr-ass."
