Arches Mexican Empire picked a top beer of 2018

Beer Connoisseur recently published its list of "Top 100 Beers of 2018." And lo and behold, local favorite Mexican Empire from Atlanta's Arches Brewing was ranked No. 2, just behind No. 1 Riegele Privat from the venerable Brauhaus Riegele in Augsburg, Germany.

With that honor in mind, Mexican Empire is this week’s Beer Pick.

Beer Pick

Mexican Empire

Arches Brewing, Hapeville, GA

Available on draft and in 12-ounce cans.

Profile

Arches Mexican Empire Vienna Lager started out as a summer seasonal, but soon became so popular it was elevated to a year-round offering. That’s a good thing, because Beer Connoisseur recently ranked it No. 2 on its list of “Top 100 Beers of 2018.”

A tribute to the European immigrants who brought the Vienna lager style to Mexico, Mexican Empire is defined by its kilned Vienna malt flavor. Designed by Arches brewmaster Jamey Adams with a Viennese water profile, it has a nutty character, with Noble hops in the aroma, and a bit of bitterness mingling in the dry finish.

Pair with

Mexican Empire is very food-friendly, pairing effortlessly with a wide variety of dishes from hearty pub grub to spicy Mexican and Asian. But this time of year it would make a nice match for roast beef or pork, or mellow, nutty cheeses such as aged Asiago or Sweetgrass Dairy Thomasvile Tomme.
