Truman Tavern & Bar is set to open for dinner Wednesday in the the former Colbeh Persian Kitchen & Bar on Decatur Square.

Executive chef Michael Condon of nearby Decatur spots, Badda Bing Catering and Calle Latina, partnered with Brian Buchanan and Paul Vinces on the project.

Look for "reinvented classic, center-of-plate dishes, like the certified Angus beef prime rib and Berkshire double-cut pork chops, with simple, local ingredients."

The bar menu is designed to "appeal to those with vintage tastes, featuring classic cocktails such as the Long Island Ice Tea and Singapore Sling."

After serving dinner-only on Wednesday and Thursday, Truman be adding lunch on Friday, just in time for the crowds at the annual AJC Decatur Book Festival .

"There's about 100,000 people that will be in the square, so we thought we'd throw ourselves straight to the fire," Buchanan said in phone call earlier today. "If you're going to do it, do it right, and make it happen."

As far as the concept, Buchanan said there's been some confusion in describing it as inspired by the '80s.

"We're not looking to bring back the '80s, or anything like that," he said. "It's really much more about bringing back the beginnings of our careers, 25 years or so ago, when you got great quality food, great service, and you walked out with a smile.

"We're going back to our roots to do something that deceptively simple. We're not trying to reinvent the wheel, we're just trying to make it rounder, I guess."

123 E. Court Sq., Decatur, 404-373-1226.
