Looking for the best barbecue in the South? You don't even have to drive out of state, according to one recent survey

Southern Living released its South's Best 2017, a ranking of the best bars, BBQ joints, breweries, cities, hotels, inns, islands, museums, resorts, restaurants, shops, small towns, and tailgates as voted on by its readers.

The pick for the best 'cue in the region was right here in Georgia. Located on St. Simons Island, Southern Soul "serves Southern barbecue treasures in a setting that strikes the pitch-perfect chord for a barbecue joint," the publication notes.

Atlanta spot Fox Bros. BBQ made the list at #3, while Florida-based 4 Rivers Smokehouse, which is set to open its first Atlanta location this spring, rolled in at #9.
