Unfamiliar restaurants can be intimidating. So, it’s nice when a specialty restaurant makes an effort to be approachable. Ceviche Taqueria, in Roswell and Alpharetta, does this better than most. Its Ceviche First Timer appetizer is an excellent way for the uninitiated to try several types of the dish featuring seafood cured in citrus juice.

In fact, it’s a good way for anyone to get their fill of the restaurant’s namesake dish. Compared with most places that serve ceviche, the portions here are massive. The Ceviche First Timer allows you to try three different preparations of ceviche, and the appetizer is plenty of food on its own, when paired with the restaurant’s free chips and salsa.

The three ceviches pictured are mahi, tuna and scallop. Each was served with a complementary salsa, and, of the three, the scallop was a favorite. Fruit lovers may prefer the mahi, topped with bright, sweet mango, while spicy food fans will enjoy the tuna, laced with jalapeno. But, the scallop had an excellent balance of citrus paired with the small, sweet shellfish, cured to the perfect level of tenderness.

For people who love food, there’s no greater joy than sharing something new and delicious with someone for the first time. But, while it’s labeled as being for first timers, this ceviche trio will appeal to any seafood lover.
