Popular Atlanta-based restaurant chain Taqueria del Sol is temporarily closing due to the coronavirus pandemic. In an email sent to supporters Wednesday, owners Mike Klank and Eddie Hernandez, along with longtime managers Steve Shields and George Trusler, wrote that the company would pause all operations beginning April 15. Taqueria del Sol has seven locations in Atlanta, Athens and Nashville and operates a catering operation called Sol Catering.

After expressing appreciation for the community’s support, the announcement noted that the upcoming weeks were especially important for the safety of the Taqueria del Sol staff. “This has been an incredibly anxious time for our staff and our families, and we feel it is best if they remain home during this time. With the possible peak of the virus occurring in the Metro Atlanta area next week, we want to ensure the health and safety of our staff and guests alike.”

Taqueria del Sol had been operating on a takeout-only basis since late March, while Sol Catering served free meals to restaurant industry workers at its facility on Zonolite Road.

Restaurant management expressed a desire to reopen in the near future, telling subscribers, “It has been a pleasure to see all of our incredible customers recently and we can’t wait to serve you again very soon.”
