Sean Brock's cookbook, Heritage , won the James Beard Award for American Cooking at this year's ceremony. James Beard Awards are nothing new to Brock: the chef himself has also won a James Beard Award for Best Chef, Southeast in 2010. Brock's restaurants include Husk, McCrady's, and Minero in Charleston, South Carolina, and Husk in Nashville.
Heritage shares Brock's passion to preserve heritage foods of the Southeast. The cookbook chronicles places where food is sourced in the South: such as the yard for poultry, and the sea or creek for seafood with recipes and stories by Brock.
On Wednesday May 13, Brock will personally teach a cooking class focusing on Heritage at the Sur la Table in Alpharetta. He will demo recipes from his cookbook including "Cracklin' Cornbread," "Chicken Simply Roasted in a Skillet," "Carrots Glazed in Carrot Juice," and "Squash Seed Risotto." Sur La Table is hosting a cooking class for Heritage in 23 states across the country, but Alpharetta is the only location where Brock himself will be teaching.
The cooking class is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets are available online for $79.
