I used to date a guy named Fred.*
Fred rarely discarded food, even after the expiration date. As long as the milk didn’t smell “too bad,” he drank it. A little mold on the bread? He would cut off the moldy section and eat the rest, though he would toast it to avoid the staleness. On and on Fred went. I was unperturbed until he invited me to his house to watch a movie. When I arrived, he had surprised me with a candlelit dinner. Presumably, he saw the look of horror on my face; he assured me that everything was fresh. To this day, I’m uncertain whether or not it was fresh, but dinner was magnificent!
All of this brings me today’s two-part poll: 1. What foods do you eat after the expiration date?
2. How long after the expiration date do you eat food?
Vote in the poll and share your thoughts in the comments section. Poll results will post in two weeks so get to voting, sharing on social or discussing amongst friends (but probably not the person you’re dating). I’ll also post what, if any, foods I eat after the expiration date.
* Name changed
