If you’re going out tonight, chances are you plan to do a little celebrating to ring in the New Year. But once the night ends, allow yourself the chance to sleep in. Then make your way over to one of these hearty, belly-filling brunches. It’s the perfect way to refuel after a late night and a satisfying way to start 2015.
Celebrate the New Year NOLA style. Typically this New Orleans Reveillon meal is served Christmas Eve, but Across the Street serves it on the first day of the year. Classic New Year’s dishes get their own Creole spin, with selections such as black eyed peas and collard greens. Bloody Marys and mimosas are mandatory for brunch. Drop in anytime between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.
You may have spent New Year’s Eve at this bar throwing back pints, so make an effort to come back in and fill up on a $12 brunch. Features include roasted pork loin with hoppin’ John, braised local greens and cornbread. Brunch begins at 11 a.m.
Bantam + Biddy (all locations)
This family-friendly joint is a great neighborhood spot to indulge on a first-day brunch. The restaurant serves up honey-glazed ham, stewed black-eyed peas, braised collards, cornbread and gravy. Hold off your healthy resolutions for one more day and choose from carrot cake or sweet potato pie to top off the meal. Breakfast is served until 3 p.m.
The restaurant is finally coming onto the scene and to celebrate their appearance and the new year, they’re hosting a whole hog roast featuring a Heritage Farms pig. You’ll get a nice slab of pork, PBR spiked collard greens, mac n cheese and black eyed peas and country cast-iron cornbread. For those still looking to quench their thirst, choose from a complimentary PBR tall boy or boozy punch. The event begins at noon and ends when food runs out. The hog roast meal is $35 per person.
