After a few trials runs, My Parents' Basement , the new combination craft beer bar, restaurant and comic book store in Avondale Estates, will officially open its doors at 11 a.m. today.

After several years of pop up shops, which attracted comic geeks from as far away as North Carolina, Alabama and Florida, the trio behind My Parents’ Basement, Dave DeFeo, Tim Ensor and Lawson Wright, decided to combine their obsessions  with craft beer and comic books into a brick-and-mortar concept with a bar and restaurant.

Located in a freestanding building that was once home to the James Joyce pub, the sprawling space features a well-stocked comic shop focusing on new issues, trade paperbacks and rarities, free vintage video games and a large covered patio.

On the imaginative menu , look for the likes of Foot-long Pimento Cheese Toast, Chicken IN Waffles, Grilled Kimcheese and a daily house-made Hot Pocket. The well-curated draft beer and beverage lists reflect Ensor's previous experience as beer manager at Decatur's  Brick Store Pub and Leon's Full Service .

22 North Avondale Road, Avondale Estates, 404-292-4607.
