A former Waffle House executive is expanding his “feel better food” concept with a second metro Atlanta location.
Carl Smith is set to open Huskers Cafe in Suwanee Crossroads Shopping Plaza at 3255 Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road on Oct. 16. The first location opened in August 2016 in Stone Mountain.
Smith, who retired from Waffle House in 2015, said the restaurant’s menu is “inspired in part by the Smith family’s love of breakfast and their strong Southern roots,” according to a press release.
The breakfast-based menu includes items such as breakfast bowls, pancakes and melts, but the main focus is on grits, “any way you want them.”

"The feeling of hospitality – that everyone is family and welcome at the table – reflects the philosophy of Southern dining I grew up with," said Smith.
Leland Gosha, a former multi-unit manager for Waffle House and Smith's longtime friend, will serve as managing partner for the Suwanee restaurant.
Huskers will be open seven days a week for breakfast and lunch.
