A Mexican restaurant that has called East Atlanta home since 2011 is closing next month, with another spot offering similar cuisine set to take its spot.

Tomatillos announced on its Facebook page that it will close at 1242 Glenwood Ave. SE March 11:

The restaurant, owned by Margaret Kaiser ( a former state representative and mayoral candidate ), serves a menu of burritos, soft tacos and quesadillas as well as other Mexican food staples in a former Wachovia bank building. Kaiser and her husband are also co-owners of Grant Central Pizza locations in Grant Park and East Atlanta.

Corrina Martinez, owner of Blu Cantina in Castleberry Hill -- which closed in 2017 after its roof collapsed -- will open a restaurant in the space, according to the Tomatillos Facebook post.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
