Dining with the Stars: Killer Mike’s favorite Atlanta restaurants

Welcome to “Dining with the Stars,” a new feature in which Atlanta notables walk us through their dream food day in the metro area.

This week, we chatted via email with Atlanta native Mike Render, better known as rapper Killer Mike of the duo Run the Jewels. He’s also a Grammy Award winner, political activistentrepreneur and a newly-minted member of the High Museum of Art’s board of directors.

Favorite place for breakfast: The Beautiful Restaurant, 2260 Cascade Road SW, Atlanta. 404-752-5931, beautifulrestaurant-atlanta.com/

They offer real southern breakfast and it’s in the heart of southwest Atlanta. I eat there and fellowship with my elders and with the community. I meet with Rev. Albert E. Love and CT Martin and I get my grassroots info. I love their pancakes, eggs and beef links with cheese grits.

Favorite place for a cup of coffee: Cafe + Velo, 381 Edgewood Ave. SE, Atlanta. 404-458-2979. cafeandvelo.com/menu/

I am not a coffee drinker, but when I drink coffee, I drink it from Café + Velo. It’s on Edgewood, right up the street from my barber shop The SWAG Shop. Their coffee tastes like hot chocolate. The hot chocolate is the bomb as well.

Favorite place for lunch:

Ann’s Snack Bar, 1615 Memorial Drive, Atlanta. 404-687-9207, facebook.com/Anns-Snack-Bar-156215627758930/

Sweet Auburn Seafood, 171 Auburn Ave. NE, Atlanta. 678-974-5019, sweetauburnseafood.com/

Milk and Honey, 5495 Cascade Road SW, Atlanta. 404-968-9266, milkandhoneyatl.com/

It’s a three-way tie. If I’m on the east side of Atlanta, Ann’s Snack Bar. They have the best burgers in the world. If I’m intown, I like Sweet Auburn Seafood. Their service is always on par and their food and music is great. If I’m on the west side, I like Milk and Honey. I love their turkey meatloaf and I appreciate their service.

Favorite place for happy hour: Blue Flame Lounge, 1097 Harwell Road, Atlanta. 404-794-1446.

My favorite place for happy hour is the Blue Flame Lounge, which is a strip club. I typically have lemon pepper wings with whiskey and Sprite on ice.

Favorite place for dinner:

Bones, 3130 Piedmont Road NE, Atlanta. 404-237-2663. bonesrestaurant.com/

Chops Lobster Bar, 70 West Paces Ferry Road, Atlanta. 404-262-2675, buckheadrestaurants.com/restaurant/chops-lobster-bar-atl/

They’re (some) of the top steak restaurants in the world.

Favorite place for late night food and drinks. Spondivits, 1219 Virginia Ave., East Point. 404-767-1569, spondivits.net/

That place will never let you down! I have crab leg buckets and lobster tails. They have great food with a Margaritaville vibe. The only thing missing is the ocean.
