Oktoberfest officially begins on Sept. 22 this year, with Atlanta’s Der Biergarten kicking off its downtown Atlanta celebration at noon on Saturday.

But there will be many more events later this month and into October all around Atlanta, including at Brick Store Pub, New Realm Brewing and Historic Old Fourth Ward Park.

And in honor of the start of Oktoberfest, Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest is this week’s Beer Pick.

Beer Pick

Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest

Siera Nevada Brewing Co., Mils River, NC

Available on draft and in 12-ounce bottles

Profile

This year, Sierra Nevada partnered with Bavaria’s Weihenstephan, known as the world’s oldest brewery, for its annual take on German Oktoberfest. Brewed with Steffi, Pilsner and Munich malts, and Sterling, Spalter and Record hops, it’s a very fine, super fresh example of the classic style.

At 6 percent alcohol, with a bright gold color and bubbly carbonation, it’s a malt forward lager, that’s nonetheless crisp and refreshing, displaying subtle floral and spicy notes before a smooth dry finish.

Pair with

Sierra Nevada recommends pairing Oktoberfest with German weisswurst sausage, roast pork,

mild cheddar or butterkase cheese or apple strudel with fresh whipped cream.
