Muss & Turner's is closing its East Cobb location after less than a year. Yesterday was the restaurant's last day of service.

The restaurant, located at 1205 Johnson Ferry Road in Marietta, is a part of Unsukay Concepts, the parent company of Muss & Turner's Smyrna, Eleanor's, Local Three Kitchen & Bar and Warhorse Investments.

"After nearly a year of giving it our best shot with the daily efforts of a committed team, we have made the difficult decision to close our East Cobb location," said Unsukay partner Ryan Turner in a prepared statement (chefs Chris Hall and Todd Mussman are also Unsukay partners).  "We feel honored by the amount of support we have received from loyal fans and are grateful for the incredible relationships we have built among the neighborhood. Dining patterns among the East Cobb market varied significantly from our Smyrna location and, unfortunately, didn’t prove a financially viable model for our concept. We look forward to focusing our efforts on our thriving Smyrna location and continuing to serve great food to our friends and neighbors in the community. We sincerely hope our East Cobb friends will venture to our original location to visit with us often."

Hall said the group is hoping to assign many of the eatery's employees to other Unsukay restaurants.

"The hardest part of closing is the impact this will have on our team members," Hall said. "Those who worked at Muss & Turner’s East Cobb are part of our Unsukay family, so making sure that they are taken care of is our top priority. Our goal is to retain as much of the staff as possible across our other restaurants. For those we do not have positions for, we are working with industry friends to help find opportunities so that no one gets left behind."

Muss & Turner's East Cobb location opened in March 2017 , with a flex-casual menu similar to the Smyrna location, offering up soups, salads, sandwiches and sides, as well as new items including a spicy Szechuan pork sandwich.

AJC food writer Wendell Brock gave it a favorable review in June 2017, singling out its Pastrami on Wry sandwich: "My princess calls herself Pastrami on Wry, and she’s just that: a zaftig pile of thinly sliced, slow-roasted wagyu brisket tucked into a rather flashy getup of marble rye."

Muss & Turner's East Cobb moved into the space vacated by Unsukay restaurant Common Quarter, which was open from 2013 to 2017.

Unsukay experienced some changes in 2016 after fourth partner Chris Talley announced his departure from the group and the restaurant industry.
