On Saturday from noon to 4 p.m., Max Lager’s Wood-Fired Grill & Brewery in downtown Atlanta will host the fourth annual Old 320 Beer Fest. The beer tasting features more than 30 breweries from around the Southeast, bites from Brewed to Serve Restaurants, live music, and a raffle for a trip to Belgium.

Look for special offerings from New Realm, Atlanta Brewing, Creature Comforts, Monday Night, and many more — plus debut beers from Bold Monk Brewing Co., a brewing and bottling facility, brewpub and beer garden from Brewed to Serve, set to open soon on Atlanta’s Westside.

Tickets: $60 advance or $75 at the door, include bites, a sampling glass, unlimited beer samples, an edible pretzel lanyard, and one raffle ticket.

And in anticipation of all that fun at the Old 320 Beer Fest, Max Lager’s Cat’s Away DIPA is this week’s Beer Pick.

While the Cat’s Away DIPA

Profile

While the Cat’s Away is a modern double IPA brewed with pale ale malt, 10% flaked oats, and several hop additions, including South African Southern Passion hops, and “copious amounts” of Simcoe Cryo hops.

The result is an 8% alcohol, slightly hazy double IPA, with a fruity flavor profile, balanced by a toasty malt presence, a full mouthfeel, and an even bitterness in the finish.

Pair with

Max Lager’s head brewer Anthony Morovich suggests pairing Cat’s Away with the restaurant’s signature smoked wings, or the buttermilk-battered Southern fried chicken plate, which is served with bacon-braised collard greens, fries, and pepper jelly.
