Beer Pick: Steady Hand Flower Business Double IPA

On Saturday from 4-7 p.m., Steady Hand Beer Co. is teaming up with the Chastain Park Conservancy for Goat Fest, an autumn beer festival featuring the likes of Georgia Farmhouse Ale, Imperial Coffee Stout, and Rye Saison. Tickets can be purchased here.

Steady Hand has acquired the space and equipment for a taproom and production facility set to open on the Westside in spring 2018.

In the meantime, though, brewmaster Brian Sullivan has been producing the company’s beers at Jailhouse Brewing Co. in Hampton, GA.

And last week, Steady Hand released its first batch of canned beers, including Paradise Waits IPA, Georgia Farmhouse Ale, and the new Flower Business Double IPA, which I think is one of the best, yet.

So in honor of Goat Fest, and the release of Steady Hand in cans, Flower Business is this week’s Beer Pick.

Flower Business Double IPA

Steady Hand Beer Co., Atlanta

Available on draft and in 4-pack cans.

Profile

Steady Hand describes Flower Business as “hazy orange in color”with a “bright, juicy, hop flavor” and “notes of fresh-squeezed citrus, tropical fruit, sweet peach, and subtle pine.”

Most of that flavor and complexity is produced through a combination of classic American hops, including Cascade, Centennial, Amarillo and Simcoe. At 9-percent alcohol, it’s a surprisingly easy to drink double IPA, with a smooth, slightly sweet malt character, and an easygoing, balanced bitterness that invites another sip.

Pair with

With an abundance of alcohol and hops, big, bold double IPA isn’t exactly a food-friendly style. But since Flower Business drinks more like a single IPA, many of the recommended pairings, including charcuterie, sausages, and barbecue, will work. And this time of year, I’d think about drinking it with a hunk of salty, funky Stilton.
