I’ll admit it. I can sometime be resistant to new beer styles. But Brut IPA isn’t one of them.
Among the best, I’ve enjoyed New Belgium’s take on the sparkling, dry style. And really I’m looking forward to the release of Terrapin’s MillerCoors Brut IPA collaboration called Hop N’ Bubbly, after tasting a bit of the pilot batch.
And with that in mind, Sierra Nevada Brut IPA is this week’s Beer Pick.
Beer Pick
Sierra Nevada Brut IPA
Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., Chico, Calif. and Mills River, NC
Available on draft and in 12-ounce bottles for a limited time
Profile
Introduced as a new winter-spring seasonal for 2019, Sierra Nevada calls its Brut IPA, “a new take on IPA brewed for a bone dry champagne-style finish.” And it credits late hop additions with giving the beer “balanced bitterness and a bright pop of citrus flavor.”
Brewed with two-row pale, wheat, and acidulated malts, it’s bittered with Simcoe and finished with Comet, Crystal, Chinook, and Simcoe hops. It pours a sparkly pale gold, with a bubbly white head, and the aroma of an old school lager — in a good way. At 6.2 percent alcohol, it’s exceptionally easy-drinking, with a pleasant tart note in the ticklish finish.
Pair with
Pair Brut IPA with just about anything you’d pair with champagne, including omelets and other brunch dishes, caviar, smoked salmon, shrimp cocktail and shucked oysters, or rich, creamy cheese such as brie.
