A new spot for Buffalo wings is now open in Kennesaw.

Anchor Bar opened this week, the first metro Atlanta location of the Buffalo, New York-based spot that dubs itself the “home of the original Buffalo wing.”

The restaurant’s menu features a variety of sauce and rub options for its traditional or boneless wings including honey bourbon barbecue, extreme heat and chipotle barbecue sauces and cajun, jerk and lemon pepper rubs. Fried and grilled chicken tenders and meatless wings are also available.

Other menu offerings include appetizers, soups, salads, entrees such as Buffalo mac and cheese and chicken parmesan, pizzas, burgers such as the Buffalo wing burger, sandwiches, wraps and sides, as well as options for kids.

On the beverage side, look for a variety of cocktails and frozen drinks, wine and beer.

The original Anchor Bar location was opened by Teressa and Frank Bellissimo in the 1930s, and the chain has since expanded with other locations in New York, Texas, Maryland, California and Canada.

The story goes that in 1964, Dominic Bellissimo asked his mother, Teressa, to make something to feed his hungry friends. She deep-fried chicken wings, covered them in sauce, and “an instant hit” was born, according to the restaurant’s website.

Anchor Bar received a James Beard Foundation Award in the American Classic category in 2003.

A representative from Anchor Bar was not immediately available for comment.
