After more than four decades of serving up classic Italian dishes on Cheshire Bridge Road, Alfredo's owner Perry Alvarez confirmed to the AJC that the restaurant will be closing its doors in 2016.
AJC reporter Bill Torpy reports that the space the restaurant occupies will be torn down to make way for high-end apartments.
The phones are ringing with customers wanting to dine there before the restaurant closes sometime in 2016. “One customer said it’s the fourth generation coming here,” Alvarez said.
Alvarez, who joined the restaurant as a partner in 1977 and bought out the other owners in the mid-1980s, seemed philisophical about the closing:
“What can you do? That’s progress. It’s all about the money,” Alvarez said.

Like the decor, and like the food, the service here is old-school in every sense of the word. Your server — likely an older gentleman with at least a decade of experience at Alfredo’s under his belt — arrives dressed semiformally, and the service is that same kind of old-style, borderline overbearing level of accommodating that you almost never see in newer establishments.
Alfredo's isn't the only longtime Atlanta restaurant to shutter -- Torpy also notes that The Brickery closed in Sandy Springs just before Christmas to make way for a mixed-use development, and Manuel's Tavern closed in December for a complete renovation .
