Local bands score coveted Shaky Knees Music Festival gig

It’s all everyone has been talking about for the past few weeks: Shaky Knees Music Festival is almost here! Access Atlanta caught up with two local bands taking the stage for the first time.
Futurebirds and Trash Panda will be giving fans a show to remember during the music festival’s 10 year anniversary at Central Park.
Futurebirds is comprised of musicians Carter King (singer/guitarist), Daniel Womack (singer), Thomas Johnson (singer/guitarist), Brannen Miles (bassist), Kiffy Myers (pedal steel), Spencer Thomas (keyboardist) and Tom Myers (drummer). The band is already receiving high praise, being called “the most captivating rock act touring today” by Rolling Stone. When it comes to the festival the group is thrilled about making their Shaky Knees debut.
“We’ve always wanted to perform at Shaky Knees so we’re very excited about this,” King told Access Atlanta. “We’ve known about the festival since the start of it … a couple of us are from Atlanta, and it’s the coolest thing going as far as festivals in town.”
You can catch Futurebirds performing Saturday, May 6 on the “Piedmont” Stage from 4:30–5:30 p.m.
CHECK OUT: Don’t sleep on Shaky Knees’ after-dark performances
The Atlanta-based indie rock band, Trash Panda, plans on bringing the same type of high energy to their first Shaky Knees performance. For the group, there’s no place like the electrifying feeling of home – a feeling they can’t wait to share with their loved ones.
“It’s a home-town feeling; I lived in Atlanta for seven years, and the best part about it is that so many of my friends are going to be there and we get to celebrate this together. That’s going to be really special,” Trash Panda member Patrick Taylor told Access Atlanta.
Taylor (aka Lazuli Vane) had the idea for Trash Panda in 2015 in reaction to the raccoons hiding behind the drywall of the home he rented on Craigslist. While the group disbanded, it wasn’t the end of Trash Panda’s story. It wasn’t until the 10-piece Max Zargon Funk Ensemble performed with Taylor at world longboarding champion Justin Quintall’s Logjam after-party (and several shows later) that Taylor finally agreed to restart the band as a four-piece in the summer of 2022. They released “Things Will Never Change” in August of that year. Trash Panda is about to release their album “PANDAMONIUM!” May 12.
Trash Panda will hit the “Ponce De Leon” stage Sunday, May 7 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.
