Our favorite Georgia-based shows that landed 2022 Emmy Nominations

The Emmy nominations are in!
We all know Georgia is the production home for many television shows and movies – known to many as the Hollywood of the south. Now that the Emmys have announced their nominees, congratulations are in order for several Georgia-based television shows and they are all well deserved.
First up, we have Netflix’s original series, “Stranger Things.” The show racked up 13 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series, Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup and Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for A Drama Series. What’s interesting is that none of the actors were nominated for any awards. This is the second time that “Stranger Things” has been axed out of all Emmy acting categories. This is actually very surprising to me because there are so many super talented actors on the show!
Next up, we have the FX show “Atlanta.” The show snagged three nominations, including Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series and Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for show creator, Donald Glover. The show has seen success with the Emmys in the past, winning awards in 2017 and 2018.
Netflix had more success with “Ozark.” The Netflix original was able to snag the same number of nominations as “Stranger Things,” landing at 13 each. Two of the show’s main characters were both rewarded for their performances, as they both are up for Outstanding Lead Actor and Actress in A Drama Series, in their respective categories. A few of their other nominations include Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series and Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series, just to name a few. The most recent season of “Ozark,” season four, was the final season, so it would be great to go out with a few Emmy wins under their belt.
“The Staircase,” is also filmed here in Georgia and managed to earn two nominations. Colin Firth was nominated for Lead Actor in a Limited Series for portraying Peter, and Toni Collette, who plays his wife on the show, was nominated for Lead Actress in a Limited Series.
No word on who the host will be yet but I’m sure that’ll come soon. The Emmy Awards are set to air on September 12 on NBC.
