Beginning Aug. 13 through Sept. 20, The Tortoise, the Hare, and Other Aesop’s Fables returns to the Center for Puppetry Arts. The show was first performed at the Center in 2012.
Guests will see five of Aesop’s most famous fables: The Lion and the Mouse, The City Mouse and the Country Mouse, The Fox and the Crane, The Ant and the Grasshopper and The Tortoise and the Hare.
The playful production, recommended for ages 2 and older is directed by head puppeteer Amy Sweeney and features catchy music, circus skills and limited dialogue designed to appeal to preschoolers. The audience is invited to join in with singing and clapping. The performance takes place in the Downstairs Theater.
If you attend on preview shows on Tuesday, August 11 and Wednesday, August 12, you get a discount. All tickets are $6.75 (regular ticket prices are $9.25 for members, $16.50 for non-members). Children 2 and under are free. Museum exhibits are currently closed, but your ticket includes admission to the create-a-puppet workshop.
Sunday, Aug. 30 from 12-2:30 p.m. (the show starts at 1 p.m.) is a special afternoon for guests with autism spectrum disorder. There will be a sensory-friendly performance of The Tortoise, the Hare, and Other Aesop’s Fables and Create-A-Puppet workshop.
Regular show times are:
• Thursday and Friday: 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
• Saturday: 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
• Sunday: 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
