Back-to-school season is big business for malls as shoppers hit stores for the items they need. This weekend is tax-free weekend, so the crowds are likely to be even larger. Some malls are capitalizing on a captive audience by offering a range of events. Here are some of the happenings:
Mall of Georgia: On Saturday, Aug. 1 from 1 – 3 p.m. join MOG and Teen Vogue, for Back-to-School Saturday (BTSS). The event takes place at the Mountain Court between Armani Exchange and Sephora. You'll find exclusive retail offers and promotions, prize giveaways, a flash tattoo station, photobooth, DJ and more. Participating retailers include Aéropostale, American Eagle, AG Jeans, American Apparel, ASOS, Bearpaw, Biore, Bonpoint, Boohoo.com, Delia's, Finish Line, Hask, Jovani, LeSportsac, Macy's, Maybelline, Not Your Mothers, OGX, Others Follow, PacSun, Secret, Simple, Sorel, Staples, Tampax, and Vera Wang Princess Hippie. Lenox Square: Simon Rewards members can upload stores receipts to earn special prizes and points. Check with guest services for a list of participating stores where you can earn double points. To sign up for Simon Rewards, visit simonrewards.com. On Saturday, donate unwanted clothing and accessories to Livable Buckhead. Collection tents will be located at the mall on the Peachtree Road side. North Point Mall: On August 1 from 1 – 4 p.m., enjoy a back to school bash featuring the latest fashions, music from Star 94 and pet adoptions by Angels Among Us Pet Rescue. The fashion show takes place from 1 – 2 p.m. and will include some of the back to school styles available for purchase. The event will also feature giveaways. Clean out your closet in advance and donate used clothing and shoes to American Textile Recycle Service. Donation bins are located in the lower level center court and East Court near Sears. Sugarloaf Mills: From 1-4 p.m. on Aug. 1, see the latest trends in fall fashion from retailers such as Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5th, Neiman Marcus Last Call, Levi's Outlet, Old Navy, and more. Back-to-school bash entertainment and activities will include music by DJ Kimber, fashion shows hosted by local bloggers and giveaways along with a braid and ponytail bar, lip lounge and a selfie station. Town Center at Cobb: Enjoy a back to school fashion show from 2 – 4 p.m. in the Center Court revealing the best looks for the season. There will also be swag bags and prizes.
