Friday, June 5 is National Donut (or Doughnut) Day.

The event marks a near-century old tradition when women Salvation Army volunteers known as “Lassies” made donuts for soldiers on the front lines of World War I.

If you’re a doughnut lover, you’ll have lots of options for free or discounted doughnuts in the metro area. Here is a sampling of the deals around town:

Dunkin Donuts: Get one free donut of your choice on June 5 with the purchase of a beverage. The offer excludes Croissant Donuts and Cheesecake Squares. Revolution Doughnuts: This three-year-old shop is celebrating a birthday along with National Donut Day by giving the first 300 customers a free doughnut mini with their order. The offer begins at 7 a.m. and is good while supplies last. Revolutions Doughnuts, 908 W College Ave, Decatur.

Simply Done: This mobile shop will be parked at the Concert in Sugar Hill on Friday at Sugar Hill City Park Amphitheatre on East Broad Street, Sugar Hill. Get a free doughnut with any purchase. The concert series is from 7 – 9 p.m.

Sweet Apple Donuts: Beginning at 6 a.m., customers will get a free donut while supplies last. Sweet Apple Donut, 5430 McGinnis Ferry Road, Alpharetta.

Twisted Doughnuts & Cafe: Customers will get one free doughnut all day while supplies last. No purchase is necessary. Twisted Doughnuts & Cafe, 3153 Sugarloaf Parkway, Lawrenceville.
