New video games out this week

"Splatoon." Things get messy in this action-shooter game, but instead of bullets, the weapons of choice is splattery, colorful ink. Four-on-four turf battles (online and off) allow players to try a variety of ink-spraying weapons and to upgrade skills as an evil octopus army is rising. The Nintendo Wii U GamePad can also be used as a 360-degree viewer during gameplay. $60, for Nintendo Wii. Rated E-10+ for Everyone 10 and Older.

"Magicka 2." This action/fantasy sequel in the "Diablo" or "Gauntlet" vein allows up to four wizards to engage in dynamic spellcasting and crack jokes while taking on enemies in single-player or co-op modes. Rated T for Teen. $15-$25 for Standard or Deluxe Editions, for Windows PC and PlayStation 4.
