The grand opening is today and tomorrow, so you can walk-in or pre-book complimentary makeup lessons (choose from a menu of nine lessons) that range from 5 to 45 minutes. This weekend, Bobbi Brown Beauty Team Artist, John Hernandez and team will be on hand to help you learn how to create the “you but better” look Bobbi Brown is known for. You leave with a pretty face and a personalized face chart. Lessons are available from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. To pre-book, you can call 770-396-2800.
I’ve used Bobbi Brown products in the past, but I never took the time to do a makeup lesson. Boy, was that a mistake.
I went to check out the counter on Thursday and while there, I had my first ever Bobbi Brown makeover at the hands of Hernandez who lives in Atlanta, but is usually globe-trotting and training Bobbi Brown team members, so it was a special treat.
The lessons include tutorials on smokey eyes, brows, cheeks and lips, perfect skin and more. I chose the Ultimate Makeup Lesson — a 45-minute session which outlines the 10 steps you need to create a beauty routine that works for you.
Hernandez says one of the biggest mistakes women make is not giving their skin enough hydration. Yes, it gets hot and humid in Atlanta, but not hydrating your skin is mostly a no-no. Bobbi’s philosophy, he says, relies on getting your skin to be the best it can be before applying makeup. Another big concern for women is concealing under-eye circles.
The Ultimate Makeup Lesson covers both of these issues in-depth. My session began with skincare basics and ended with suggestions on shifting my look from day-to-night. I left with a personal face chart and a booklet outlining each of the steps. It was the only department store makeover I have had that didn’t leave me looking like “myself in drag.” Not only did I NOT want to go scrub my face, I wanted to buy everything on it.

Mostly though, I was surprised to have learned so many things I didn’t know. You may have your own revelations when you book an appointment with a Bobbi Brown makeup artist, but here are six tips I took away from my session with Hernandez:
- Don't under-hydrate your skin. We may think we are applying to much moisturizer, but as Hernandez says, most of us are not applying enough. You never want to apply makeup to dry skin. That's just asking for trouble.
- Only use foundation to cover redness or uneven skin tone. Don't smear it across your entire face.
- There is no wrong order to apply your makeup, but completing your cheeks and lips first can help you decide what to do with your eyes
- Your brows should match your hair color, Hernandez says. Don't go lighter.
- Avoid eyeliner on your bottom lids if you're feeling tired. It will only drag you down more.
- And finally, to give yourself an inner glow, dab a bit of dry face oil on your cheeks. It will leave you looking refreshed.
