Tamara Hudgins, who has led Austin-based Girlstart since 2009, will be inducted to the South by Southwest Interactive Hall of Fame at this year's festival.

The induction, to take place during the SXSW Interactive Innovation Awards on March 17, will honor the work Hudgins has done in expanding Girlstart’s reach in STEM education. The organization was founded in 1997, but in the last five years has grown to more than 15,000 student, teacher and family members. Girlstart’s summer programs and camps to teach technology, science, match and engineering skills, have expanded in length and the group now has 45 Girlstart After School programs.

Girlstart has also expanded its reach to other cities including San Francisco, Seattle and Chicago.

She joins three past inductees to the Hall of Fame: web design pioneer Jeffrey Zeldman, Microsoft senior researcher danah boyd and Joi Ito, director of the MIT Media Lab.
