Patients at Dell Children's Medical Center on Wednesday got a virtual visit from Santa Claus. As part of a program called Cisco Santa Connection that's being used in about 50 hospitals in the Americas, kids who are hospitalized over the holidays can get a peek at Santa and communicate with St. Nick via teleconference on a secure Cisco Jabber system.

The program started seven years ago. The technology can be used on iOS devices like iPhones and iPads as well as on mobile carts and other systems using Jabber.

And in a totally self-serving plug, I should mention that Santa will be a guest on this week's "Statesman Shots" podcast which will be posted on Thursday. Busy week for Santa!
