If you’re looking to escape the heat and air quality issues, you might have to be patient.

Even after reaching a high of 94 degrees later in the afternoon, temperatures are expected to still be in the low 90s by 7 p.m. Friday, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Temps won’t drop to 87 until about 9 p.m.

“At midnight, we’re 79 and mostly clear,” Channel 2 meteorologist Brad Nitz said.

Metro Atlanta is under a code orange air quality alert, and Channel 2 meteorologist Katie Walls warned people to be vigilant between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Children, teenagers, elderly adults and people with lung disease or asthma are encouraged to reduce prolonged or heavy exertion outdoors, the Environmental Protection Agency reported.

“Watch for symptoms such as coughing or shortness of breath,” the EPA said.
