Atlanta weather | Rain will move out later today, return on Wednesday

Monday morning’s rain is moving out, but another chance of rain is forecast for later in the week.

At noon Monday, radar showed the heaviest of the rain well east of Atlanta, stretching from near Athens to Macon, while the rain was already coming to an end across the northwest corner of the state.

Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said the rain should be mostly clear of Atlanta in time for Monday’s afternoon drive home.

“We’re going to see some clearing as we go through the afternoon, so rush hour this afternoon will be better than this morning’s commute,” Minton said.

Rainfall totals Monday morning ranged from .10 inch in Marietta, .22 inch at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and .24 inch in Chamblee and Peachtree City to .27 inch in Dunwoody, .28 inch in Dallas and .34 inch in Cartersville.

Tuesday will be mostly sunny, but the rain returns on Wednesday, Minton said.

She said the chance of rain is 60 percent Wednesday afternoon, increasing to 80 percent Thursday.

Afternoon highs will be in the upper 60s Monday and Tuesday and mid-60s Wednesday, then drop to the low 50s on Friday. Morning lows will be mostly in the 40s.

Atlanta’s normal high for mid-December is 54, and the normal low is 37.
