Reports started coming in around 2:25 p.m. ET that Microsoft search engine Bing had suffered an outage. By 2:44 p.m it appeared the popular search site was again operational.

Bing also powers Yahoo Search, which was included in the outage.

There was no initial indication as to what caused the outage, but social media sites such as Twitter quickly spread the word about the outage.

Gizmodo reported that the outage was not isolated to Microsoft's Bing, but hit other Microsoft services such as Outlook and Hotmail.

A Microsoft spokesperson stated, "This morning, some of our customers experienced a brief, isolated services interruption which has now been resolved."
