Augusta National has cancelled play for the remainder of the day due to severe storms forecasted for the Augusta area late Wednesday.

Play was suspended for several hours earlier in the day before the gates were re-opened and the Par-3 contest began at 12:30. Less than an hour later, course officials announced the cancellation of play with a storm that pummeled metro Atlanta for hours heading toward eastern Georgia.

WSB meteorologist Katie Walls said there’s a flash flood watch in effect for the Augusta area until 8 p.m.

“Several waves of strong to severe storms will impact Augusta today and tonight,” Walls said.
