Falcons defensive tackle Grady Jarrett (97) and middle linebacker Deion Jones (45) react after the Seattle Seahawks missed a long field goal attempt in the last minute of the fourth quarter at CenturyLink Field on Nov. 20, 2017 in Seattle.

After the Seattle Seahawks lost to the Atlanta Falcons 34-31 on Monday night, coach Pete Carroll defended his fake field goal call at the end of the first half.

The Seahawks trailed 24-17 and lined up for a 34-yard attempt. The Seahawks tossed the ball to tight end Luke Wilson who was stuffed by Falcons’ defensive tackle Grady Jarrett.

"It would have been a really good call if we would have made it," Carroll said, according to USA Today. "It was a terrific opportunity, right where we wanted it. The defensive tackle made a better play. He wasn't supposed to be there."
