JK’s Picks: Top 10 college football plays of Week 3

Week 3 of the college football season provided more jaw-dropping moments than the first two weeks combined.

While every amazing play that happened this weekend can’t be listed, here are 10 of the best moments college football had to offer.

10. Clemson’s Kelly Bryant finds a wide open Ray-Ray McCloud for the touchdown

Clemson quarterback Kelly Bryant hit wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud for a 79-yard touchdown on Saturday against Louisville.

After catching the ball around the Louisville 40-yard line, McCloud ran into the end zone untouched.

Bryant was 22 of 32 for 316 yards and one touchdown as McCloud had seven receptions for 115 yards and one touchdown.

No. 2 Clemson went on to defeat No. 14 Louisville, 47-21.

9. Colorado State freshman makes touchdown grab around Alabama defender

Colorado State freshman Warren Jackson didn’t blink when facing Alabama on Saturday.

In the second quarter of the matchup, the wide receiver caught a four-yard touchdown pass over the defensive back Anthony Averett.

Colorado State went on to lose to No. 1 Alabama, 41-23.

8. Northern Illinois returns interception for touchdown against Nebraska

In Nebraska's first possession of Saturday's game against Northern Illinois, Huskers quarterback Tanner Lee's pass was picked off by Huskies cornerback Shawun Lurry and returned 87 yards for a touchdown.

Lurry's reading of the Lee's pass and speed upon picking the pass off allowed him to sail to Huskers' end zone untouched.

Lurry's touchdown was the first of two interceptions returned for touchdowns in the first quarter by Northern Illinois in the Huskies’ 21-17 win at Nebraska.

7. Tennessee State’s Steven Newbold scrambles for unbelieveable touchdown run

Tennessee State wide receiver Steven Newbold's touchdown reception against Florida A&M, can't be fully explained— it must be watched.

After intercepting a pass from Treon Harris, Newbold scrambled for 44 yards down the field avoiding a number of tackles and then dove for the touchdown.

Tennessee State went on to win, 24-13.

6. Oklahoma State’s Mason Rudolph escapes closing pocket for 69-yard touchdown

After escaping a sack attempt, Oklahoma State quarterback Mason Rudolph threw a 69-yard pass to wide receiver Marcell Ateman for the Cowboys' third touchdown of the first quarter.

Ateman managed to keep his feet in bounds while avoiding a defender on the left sideline.

Rudolph finished Saturday's 59-21 win over Pitt throwing 23-for-32 for 497 yards, five touchdowns and one interpceiton.

5. Cincinnati’s Malik Clements wins game with pick-6

Trailing Miami-Ohio 17-14 with 1:07 remaining in game, Cincinnati safety Malik Clements picked off Miami quarterback Gus Ragland, returning the interception 14 yards for the game-winning touchdown.

Ragland slipped in front of Ragland's intended receiver and ran into the end zone untouched as the Bearcats took the lead, 21-18.

4. ECU’s Quay Johnson makes the coolest catch of the day

Against Virginia Tech on Saturday, Eastern Carolina wide receiver Quay Johnson made the most impressive catch of Week 3.

On a 27-yard pass from Pirates quarterback Gardner Minshew, Johnson caught the ball with his right hand, landing his left foot in bounds before being pushed out by a Hokies defensive back. The Pirates scored a field goal on the possession, extending their lead 17-7.

ECU (0-3) went on to lose to Virginia Tech 64-17.

3. Memphis’ starts UCLA game off with 26-second first possession

The Memphis win over UCLA was one of the most exciting games of Week 3.

On Memphis' first possession, running back Darnell Henderson ran for 80 yards through UCLA's defense to be brought down at the UCLA 11-yard line.

The Tigers (2-0) scored a touchdown on the possession with a two-yard pass to tight end Joey Magnifico. The Tigers' first possession consisted of two plays and lasted 26 seconds.

No. 25 UCLA took Memphis to the wire at Memphis’ Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium, but the Tigers won, 48-45.

2. Stephen F. Austin scores game-winning pick-6

With 16 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter and the game tied 31-31, the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks returned an interception for 67 yards for the win over the Incarnate Word Cardinals on Saturday night.

SFA sophomore defensive back Alize Ward picked off IW quarterback Sean Brophy’s pass, sped down the right sideline and lept over an IW player inside the red zone as time expired. Ward dove and extended the ball over the goal line for the touchdown.

1. Florida beats Tennessee with Hail Mary touchdown pass

One of the worst offensive games of the weekend ended with a bang.

Tied 20-20 with nine seconds left, Florida quarterback Feleipe Franks tossed a 63-yard pass to Tyrie Cleveland in the end zone for the Gators’ seventh-straight win over Tennessee at the Swamp.

No. 24 Florida took out the No. 23 Volunteers 26-20 as time expired.
