The Road to Atlanta begins this week.
The field of 125 golfers has been set. The FedEx Cup playoff begin with the first of four events that culminate in the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club next month.
The 125-player field will compete in the Northern Trust in Paramus, N.J. this week. The field will be cut to 100 players for the Dell Technologies Championship in Boston. That field will be cut to 70 players for the BMW Championship in Philadelphia. From there, the final 30 will play the Tour Championship with the event title and FedEx Cup championship on the line. Oh, and not to mention the $10 million first-place prize for the playoff winner.
The Tour Championship will be played at East Lake from Sept. 19-23.
Dustin Johnson enters as the FedEx Cup points leader. He is followed by defending FedEx Cup champion Justin Thomas, U.S. Open and PGA Championship winner Brooks Koepka, Justin Rose and Bubba Watson. The top five in the points standings control their fate, meaning a Tour Championship win means a FedEx Cup championship.
Tiger Woods currently sits in 20th place, meaning he could make play in his first Tour Championship since 2013. Jordan Spieth, currently 43rd, must jump 13 golfers in the playoffs to advance to East Lake.
